TIANTIAN MA: A Beginner’s Guide: Collecting Celestial Bodies and How to Preserve Them.

 

LATITUDE Gallery is pleased to present our first exhibition of work by Artist Tiantian Ma. Exhibition: A Beginner’s Guide: Collecting Celestial Bodies and How to Preserve Them. Curated by Shihui Zhou, Artist Tiantian Ma’s a collection of painting will be on view till 23rd of December, 2020.

 

 

Since every piece of our bodies originates from this universe, there is no reason for us to reject our inherent instinct that longing to come back to the universe. When imagining the illimitably-distanced universe full of mystery and unfathomed energy, it makes Tiantian feel more integrated, in a sense of spiritually. Under the influence of Transcendentalism, Tiantian believes that people are born with the ability and connection to integrate with nature. 

 

Generally speaking, people may feel insignificant when they face the universe. But in this series of Tiantian's works, the relationship between man and the universe is reversed. No matter in terms of mass, power, or dominance, Tiantian believes that no one is more regnant between man and the universe. She believes that the true relationship between man and the universe is that they are intertwined, and they belong to each other.

 

In her story, "collectors" store celestial bodies in everyday objects-- pans, bathtubs, candlesticks, or hold them in their hands. Celestial collectors think equally that no grasses or planets are more precious.

 

Tiantian Ma, Chinese-born, in 1997, and New York-based, she received her B.F.A. in Painting from Pratt Institute in 2020. Oil on canvas is her main medium.

 

Tiantian embraces her spirituality. It is her firm belief that the arts possess a therapeutic function. Through meditation while in the process of painting, Tiantian fabricates fantasies out of transient beauty to convey a sense of serenity. Having come to terms with the world, her works relay a repeated message: Inner peace is not an “is”, it is a “becoming”.

 

In her theory, people share an Original Relation with Nature. "God" creates all things, and illusory in Nature. Although "God" is transcendental and impersonal, people are born with the power of perceiving God. Tiantian's paintings are all about capturing the shining moments of divinity from Nature and her seemingly mediocre daily life. Observe by her blood and flesh; Perceive by Aura and spirit. She is trying to integrate myself into God.
