LATITUDE Gallery is pleased to present Tactile Vision, a solo exhibition showcasing artist Wansian Lai’s recent works.

This exhibition reimagines the world as a soft container and invites the audience to grasp a sense of softness through different mediums and concepts. Each piece of work could be a soft area for the viewer to settle down their emotions, memories, and imagination. Softness is framed as a way of suppleness, flexibility, and responsiveness. Wan Sian’s work intends to capture the moments of gentleness in life and apply them to the explorations of different media and materials.

Petting a furry animal, holding a fluffy pillow, watching the sunset, or even when a breeze caressing the skin are all examples of soft interactions and experiences. Not only tactility but other senses can trigger the perception of softness. Softness, as an ideology, reminds us to be sensitive about the surroundings and ourselves.

Wan Sian is a Brooklyn-based graphic designer and artist, best known for her graphic arts and photography. She received her Master’s in Communications Design from Pratt Institute, specializing in visualizing and creating healing and peaceful atmosphere. While working as a graphic designer, she also has the desire and eagerness to create images and illustrations, in turn, to communicate and express her viewpoint as an artist. She practices softness as her framework to conceptualize ideas through strokes and textures.
